What Not to Do When Building a New House Construction

Mistakes to Avoid When Building a New Home

So you are planning new house construction, and you have thought everything through, or have you? Even though you know exactly what you want in your home, have you thought about what you don’t want or don’t need? Have you really thought the entire thing through? You have given much thought and consideration to what will work for you, but have you taken the time to think about what won’t work?

Pay attention to your HVAC system

Poor planning at this stage can often result in moisture issues, that encourage mold and mildew growth. This can create serious health issues. Furthermore, careful attention needs to be given to the actual size of your units. HVAC systems that are too small will surely underperform, and will not be able to heat and cool your home effectively. On the flip side, systems that are too big will use too much energy.

Poor space planning

Unless you are planning to build a large home, space planning and design are critical. Ample storage is needed, just make sure you pay attention to where you want it to be placed. For example, does your master bedroom need an oversized walk-in closet when the space can be added to your bedroom or even master bath? Pay attention to where your closets are placed, as there should be at least one in every bedroom and even in the main hallway. Just remember, that too much storage space will take away from the living space.

Poor overall planning

When you are designing your own home, you must take your lifestyle into consideration. For example, how long do you plan on remaining there? Will you need safety features for new or young children? Thinking long term should be your main goal, to ensure the house continues to meet your rising needs.
